Várpalota

Várpalota [ va ː rpɒlotɒ ] ( German: Burg Castle ) is a city in the middle of Hungary, about 70 km southwest of Budapest Veszprém County.

Geography

Várpalota is located on the Ostabfall Bakonywalds, about 20 km east of the county seat only slightly larger Veszprém and halfway to Székesfehérvár. The eastern end of Lake Balaton is located 15-20 km south of the city.

The area of ​​the municipality is 77.26 km ². The population has fallen over the last 20 years by a quarter.

Socialist times Várpalota was an important mining and industrial site. After 1990 began an economic decline, all the mines were closed. Have some significance - but less than before - the aluminum - processing and chemical industries.
