Vasco Graça Moura

Vasco Graça Moura ( born January 3, 1942 in Foz do Douro, Porto District ) is a Portuguese politician, writer and translator. As a writer, he is primarily a poet and essayist.

Life

Vasco Graça Moura studied law at the Law Faculty of Lisbon University and got his degree in 1966. He practiced as a lawyer for 1966 until 1983. Since 1963 he is also active as a writer.

In 1975, he was twice Secretary of State in the provisional governments, as Secretary of State for Social Security and later Secretary of State for Foreign Portuguese, 1978, he was briefly head of RTP, the national television station of Portugal from 1979 to 1989 he was head of the State Printing Casa da Moeda and 1989-1995 Commissioner-General of the Age of Discovery. Since 1999, he sits for the PSD in the European Parliament. The politician and writer who lives in Lisbon.

Significantly, he is also a translator. So he translated the Divine Comedy of Dante Alighieri into Portuguese, and all the sonnets of Shakespeare, further Rainer Maria Rilke, Gottfried Benn, Seamus Heaney and Hans Magnus Enzensberger. His works have been translated into Italian, French, Swedish, Spanish. He is a member of the Academie € Peene de poetry, Luxembourg.
