Vasilios Xydas

Vasilios Xydas (Greek Βασίλειος Ξυδάς, * 1877 in Athens, † unknown) was a Greek athlete who was active in the late 19th century. He formed together with his compatriots Evangelos Damascus and Ioannis Theodoropoulos and the two Americans, William Hoyt and Albert Tyler, the only five-strong field of competitors in the pole vault at the first modern Olympic Games in Athens in 1896.

Xydas skipped the initial height of 2.40 m and was therefore on the fifth and last place, while Damascus and Theodoropoulos yet mastered the launched as third height 2.60 m and shared third place. However, they remained just as Xydas without a medal, as in Athens and four years later in Paris, only the top two finishers ( Hoyt won with 3.30 m in front of Tyler at 3.20 m) were excellent.

Other benefits of Vasilios Xydas are not used.
