Vasily Kapnist

Vasily Vasilyevich Kapnist (Russian Василий Васильевич Капнист; * 12 Februarjul / February 23 1758greg in the government of Poltava, .. .. † 28 Oktoberjul / November 9 1823greg ibid.) was marshal of Poltava and writer.

He was related through his wife Alexandra A. Djakowa with the poet Derzhavin and wrote comedies and satires, which at the time were very popular: Ode on slavery (1783 ) and process Chicane ( 1798). His son Alexei Vasilyevich was arrested in December 1825 and interrogated in the Decembrist revolt, but then set free again. Vasily Kapnist was a close friend of the statesman Ivan Matveyitch Murawjow - Apostol ( the father of the Decembrist Sergei Ivanovich Murawjow - Apostol ).
