Vasily Vladimirov

Vasily Sergeyevich Vladimirov ( Russian Василий Сергеевич Владимиров, Vasilii Sergeevich Vladimirov English; born January 9, 1923 in Djaglewo in the government of Petrograd; † November 3, 2012 ) was a Russian mathematician.

Life and work

Vladimirov was a son of poor peasants and completed his studies in 1948 at the University of Leningrad from. In the same year he began at the Steklov Institute to work. In 1959 he completed his habilitation (Russian PhD ) with Boris Alexeyevich Wenkow. Among his teachers in Leningrad Leonid Kantorovich and also included Nikolai Nikolaevich Bogolyubov, in which he received his doctorate in 1953. Vladimirov was a professor at the University of Leningrad and at the Steklov Institute in Leningrad. He was also a professor at the Lomonosov University in Moscow. In 1988 he became director of the Moscow Steklov Institute.

He worked on analytic functions of several complex variables with applications in quantum field theory, plurisubharmonische functions, transport theory, Monte Carlo method, the geometry of numbers, theory of distributions, p- adic numbers application in mathematical physics, multidimensional Tauber records.

In 1953 he was awarded the Stalin Prize in 1987 and the Soviet State Prize. In 1971 he received the Lyapunov Gold Medal. In 1970 he became a member of the Soviet Academy of Sciences. He was also a member of the Serbian Academy of Sciences. In 1970 he was invited speaker at the International Congress of Mathematicians in Nice ( Analytic functions of several complex variables and axiomatic quantum field theory ).
