Vaux-le-Pénil

Vaux -le- Pénil is a commune with 10,803 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Seine- et- Marne in the Île- de -France region.

Geography

Vaux -le- Pénil located about 50 km south-east of Paris on the Seine River and is adjacent to Melun.

Demographics

The population of Vaux -le- Pénil increased since the early 1960s to above average. In the period of 40 years, the population could more than quadruple. Cause of the increase is in addition to a strong influx, which manifested itself mainly in the 1970s, a significant excess of birth.

Attractions

  • Classified as Inscrit Monument Historique castle, which was in the possession of the 1789 elected president of the Konstituanten Fréteau de Saint -Just, was rebuilt in 1766 and enlarged in 1892. It is now a private museum for art of Surrealism.
  • The church of Saint -Pierre -et -Saint -Paul from the late 12th century, which was revised in the 16th century, also bears the classification as Inscrit Monument Historique.

Events

Each year in November, at Vaux -le- Pénil with around 2,000 visitors take the biggest reggae festival in the region.
