Velden is a village in the Dutch city of Venlo in the province of Limburg.

Location

Velden is located along the Meuse River approximately 5 km north of the center of Venlo on Rijksstraatweg N 271 the German border in the east is 2 km away. The driveway to the European Route 34 is located 2 kilometers to the south of the village.

History

During the Spanish War of Succession also Velden was occupied by Prussian troops until 1814 and as part of the Prussian Gelderland. Then it fell to the Kingdom of the Netherlands, which established the border into Germany by the distance of a cannon shot from the banks of the Meuse to the east. In the Treaty of London in 1839, the boundaries were defined and the entire area was in 1866 to the Netherlands. Until 1 January 2010 Velden was part of the former municipality of Arcen en Velden.

Infrastructure

In a Velden Maas ferry to the other side after Grubbenvorst, which is also useful for motorists and cyclists exist. The remote Pieterpad goes through the town. Velden was chosen with two other places to greenest village in the Netherlands in 1999.
