Velvet Sky (airline)

Velvet Sky was a South African low-cost airline based in Durban and based on the King Shaka International Airport. It was liquidated on May 14, 2012.

History

Velvet Sky, however, was founded by local businessmen formally in 2009, practically in January 2011 and adopted on 22 March 2011 the flight operation. It is in the possession of the company founded in 1970, Macdonald Holdings.

End of February 2012 presented a creditor application for liquidation against Velvet Sky and the flight was shut down from February 27 2012 until further notice. The company then working on a restructuring plan, which was rejected on 14 May by a court decision and the liquidation of the airline.

Objectives

From King Shaka International Airport in Durban, the airline operated the national targets Johannesburg and Cape Town. From 1 October 2011, a connection from Johannesburg to Polokwane to be recorded. In the medium term should be included in the flight plan other national and regional flights.

Fleet

As of February 2012, the fleet of Velvet Sky consisted of five aircraft:
