Věžnice (Havlíčkův Brod District)

Věžnice ( German Weznitz, 1939-1945 Wesenz ) is a municipality in the Czech Republic. It is located five kilometers north-west of Polná and belongs to Okres Havlíčkův Brod.

Geography

Věžnice extends in the Bohemian- Moravian Highlands along the river Šlapanka between the mouths of the rivers Skrýšovský creek and Zlatý Potok. Southeast is the reservoir Kukle.

History

The villages Horni Věžnice and Dolni Věžnice probably originated in the first half of the 13th century along the sidewalk Haberner, an important trade route from Prague to Brno.
