Vicente Lombardo Toledano

Vicente Lombardo Toledano (* July 16, 1894 in Teziutlán / Puebla, † November 16, 1968 in Mexico City) was a noted Mexican labor leader, founder of the Confederación de Trabajadores de México (CTM ), the Popular Party ( PT) and the Universidad Obrera de México.

Biography

Lombardo, who belonged to the " generation of 1915 ", studied law at the Escuela Nacional Preparatoria, habilitated in the Department of Philosophy at the Universidad Nacional de México ( UNAM later ) and taught at the two universities also. In 1923 he was inducted into the Confederación Regional Obrera Mexicana ( CROM ), from 1932, he resigned again. He was director of the Escuela Nacional Preparatoria and co-founded the Universidad Obrera de México.

In February 1921 he was " Oficial Mayor del Gobierno " in Distrito Federal de México, was from 1924 to 1925 interim governor of the state of Puebla, in 1925 the city council of Mexico City and was from 1925 to 1928 Member of the Partido Laboral in the Congress of the Union, Mexico. From 1936 to 1940 he served as Secretary General of the Confederación de Trabajadores he founded de México, was Secretary General of the Confederación de Trabajadores de América Latina ( CTAL ) and Vice President of the World Federation of Trade Unions. In 1948 he founded the Partido Popular, emerged from the Partido Popular Socialista then the (PPS). In 1952 he ran for the PPS in national presidential elections.
