Vicente Pérez Rosales

Vicente Pérez Rosales ( born April 5, 1807 in Santiago de Chile, † September 6, 1886 ) was a Chilean adventurer, politician, diplomat and writer.

He was co-organizer of German immigration in the mid-19th century in the province of Llanquihue in southern Chile. In October 1850 he was appointed by the Chilean government as successor to Bernhard Eunom Philippi for colonization officer.

On 12 February 1853 he founded the settlement Melipulli, today's Puerto Montt.

Later, he was a deputy in the Chilean Parliament (1861-1864) and Senator ( 1876-1881 ).

The Chilean National Park Vicente Pérez Rosales is named after him.
