Vickers Viking

The Vickers Viking was a single-engine flying boat by the British company Vickers Ltd. Aviation Department, which was developed shortly after the First World War for military purposes.

History

In December 1918, the design work for the second Vickers amphibious aircraft began. The prototype was a five-seat biplane with a pusher propeller and a Rolls -Royce Falcon engine. The second copy, the Viking II, had a greater wingspan and a Rolls -Royce Eagle VIII engine.

The Type 54 Viking IV recorded a larger cabin and other improvements. Most models of this version received a Napier Lion engine. From the next version, the Viking V, two copies were sold to the Royal Air Force and deployed in Iraq.

The last Viking amphibious aircraft from 1923, some of them at the Canadian Vickers Canadian subsidiary that went with it in the aircraft. An improved version of the Viking was the Vickers Vulture, from which in turn the Vickers Vanellus emerged.

The name Viking was used after the Second World War for the Vickers VC.1.
