Victor Maurel

Victor Maurel ( born June 17, 1848 in Marseille, † October 22, 1923 in New York City ) was a French baritone.

He received his musical training at the Conservatoire in Paris, and had in 1868, at the age of twenty, already made ​​his debut at the Opera in Paris. Five years later came the first performances in London. Throughout his life Maurel enjoyed an excellent reputation for its exceptionally well-trained voice and his acting talent. Maurel was selected by Giuseppe Verdi for the first performances of Otello and Falstaff, and set new standards in the interpretation of the Italian opera and the stage works of Richard Wagner. Later in his life he worked as a singing teacher in New York.
