Victor Mercante

Víctor Mercante ( born February 21, 1870 in Merlo ( Buenos Aires ); † September 20, 1934 in Los Andes (Chile) ) was an Argentine educator and writer.

Mercante attended school in his hometown and studied at the Escuela Normal de Paraná. He began his teaching career as a teacher at various secondary schools in the province of San Juan. His broad research interests made ​​him receptive to modern educational concepts. On behalf of Joaquín González Victor Mercante organized after 1905 the construction of the Pedagogical Section at the Universidad de La Plata. He was then Inspector General for normal, secondary and special schools by the Ministry of Justice and Education, and prepared with the Secretary Carlos Saavedra Lamas presented a draft for the reform of secondary schools in Argentina. 1920 Mercante left the public service, but wrote more education theoretical writings and a series of articles for the Archivos de Ciencias y PEDAGOGIA Afines. In addition, he also emerged as a playwright and wrote the libretto for Ernesto Dran Gosch's opera El carnaval. He died in 1934 on his way back from the Congreso Internacional de Educación in Chile.
