Victor Warot

Victor Alexandre Joseph Warot ( born September 18, 1834 in Verviers, Liege, † April 1906 in Bois -Colombes (department Hauts -de- Seine) ) was a Belgian opera singer who was best known as the Wagner and Meyerbeer interpreter.

Career

His first art lessons learned Warot by his father. With its support Warot came later to Paris, where he became a pupil of Jules Alary ( 1814-1891 ). His successful debut as a lyric tenor had Warot 1858, when he was able to participate at the Opéra -Comique ( Paris) Armand Limnanders opera " Montenegrins ".

On May 7, 1860, he sang in the world premiere of the posthumous Donizetti opera Rita ou Le Mari battu the role of Beppe. From 1861 to 1868, he was part of the ensemble of the Opéra National de Paris and sang, among others, the Vasco da Gama in Giacomo Meyerbeer's opera The African.

1868-69 and 1870-74 he was engaged at the Théâtre de la Monnaie in Brussels, where he also turned dramatic games. After 1888 he worked as a singing teacher at the Conservatoire National in Paris. He was the author of the textbook Bréviaire du chanteur.
