Viktor Kingissepp

Viktor Kingissepp (born 12 Märzjul / March 24 1888greg in Kaarma on Saaremaa, Estonia, .. † May 3, 1922 in Tallinn) was the founder and leader of the Estonian Communist Party. Was named after him from 1952 to 1988 his birth town of Kuressaare. Until now bears his name, the city Kingissepp - formerly Jamburg ( Ямбург ) - in the Leningrad Oblast in Russia.

On 3 May 1922, the Estonian Constitution, adopted fixed ( Kaitsepolitsei ) Kingissepp, who was in hiding in Tallinn. He was sentenced to death on the same day in a summary trial and shot. His body was thrown into the sea.
