Vildmarksvägen
The Wilderness Road (Swedish Wilderness Road ) is a tourist road in the northern and southern Jämtland Lapland.
Course
The road runs first along the river system Ströms Vattudal Strömsund after Gaddede over the Länsväg 342, then via Jormvattnet and Stora Blåsjön above the tree line across the mountains and over Stekenjokk after Klimpfjäll. After that, the road runs along the banks of the Kultsjön then past the Stalon the next big lake, Malgomaj, and at its southern shore past to Vilhelmina. It begins and ends on the European road 45
History
The road through the mountains above the tree line was created in the 1970s for the traffic to and from the pit in Stekenjokk. The mine was shut down in 1989. Stekenjokk was never a settlement of permanently living there. The mine workers lived mainly in Klimpfjäll and Stora Blåsjön.
