Vilém Kurz

Vilém Kurz ( born December 23, 1872 in Německý Brod, † May 25, 1945 in Prague) was a Czech pianist and music teacher.

Life

Vilém Short received 1884-1886 piano lessons at Julius Hoeger and 1886-1898 at Jakub Virgil Holfeld. In addition, he studied from 1887 to 1888 theory and organ at the Prague Organ School in 1892 and put his music at the Prague Conservatory exams. In the following years he has toured as a soloist and chamber musician to Vienna and Berlin. 1898 to 1919 he held a professorship in piano Lviv, 1919-1920 in Brno. From 1920 professor was short of piano at the Prague Conservatory (up to 1928 at the branch office in Brno, then until 1940 in Prague). 1936/37 and 1938/39, he was also rector of the Prague Conservatory.

Short coined by his piano- oriented programs with the piano training in his home country sustainable. Among his pupils were next to his daughter Ilona Štěpánová - Kurzova whose husband Vaclav Stepan and his grandson Pavel Stepan, including Rudolf Firkušný, Drahomir Toman, Ilya Hurník, Eduard helmsman, Břetislav Bakala, Stanislav Heller, František Maxián, Gideon Klein, Matusja Blum Rafael Schachter and Miloslav Kabeláč.
