Villa Dessauer

The Villa Dessauer was built in 1884 in Bamberg in the former Neo-Renaissance style by the hops Jewish merchant Carl Dessau. The magnificent structure was the representative exposition of his social position.

The Villa Dessauer put a long time a social focal point of the "better" Bamberger society dar. During the time of National Socialism, the former Jewish owner Max Pretzfelder was abducted and murdered by the Nazis and confiscated the villa. After the war the villa, which has now been transferred back to the son of Max Pretzfelder was sold by it to the city of Bamberg. In 1987, a gallery was set up, which is used for special exhibitions of the museums of the city of Bamberg and the Bamberg Art Association.
