Lia has already played 16 -year-old South Melbourne in the National Soccer League. Until the termination of the League in 2004, he completed a total of 51 top-flight appearances. In 2005, he stayed in the Victorian Premier League in Fawkner - Whittlesea Blues, an association of clubs Fawkner Blues and Whittlesea Stallions, fit.
With the establishment of the A-League he was taken from Melbourne Victory under contract, but did not in the two seasons at Victory on the role of a supplementary footballer in; the championship win in 2007, he was not used in the Finals. His contract was not renewed in Melbourne end of the season and he then wrote the New Zealand Premier League rivals Wellington Phoenix. In his first season at Wellington a hamstring injury forced him early in the season to a two-month forced break; Lia was after but fight for a regular place in the season and extended break his contract until 2010. During the season, preparing for the season 2008/ 09 he suffered a torn ACL in his left knee and was thus made for the entire season.
Lia took part with the Australian U -20 team at the Junior World Championships in 2003 and 2005. Overall, he came up with four tournament inserts, 2005, he led his team in a game as captain on the field.
