Vincenzo Giustiniani (Dominican)

Vincenzo Giustiniani Negro O.P. (* August 1516 on Chios in the Aegean Sea, † October 28, 1582 in Rome ) was a Cardinal of the Catholic Church.

Giustiniani was 1558 general of the Dominicans and, as such, participants in the Council of Trent. On behalf of the Senate of Milan and the Pope, he was ambassador to Philip II. , He was appointed cardinal by Pope Pius V on 17 May 1570 and initially kept the office of the Order in general. 1579 he was appointed by Pope Gregory XIII. elevated to cardinal bishop of Santa Sabina.

He was the uncle of Cardinal Benedetto Giustiniani (1554-1621, appointed 1586 ) and its eponymous brother Vincenzo Giustiniani (the younger ) ( 1564-1637 ), whose collection of paintings in 1815 to the later construction of the Gemäldegalerie (Berlin) was bought.
