The viola is a four-stringed bowed instrument Profonda filling the tenor position with its own timbre and thus reformed the harmonious relation and balance of the classical string quartet. In the classical instrument classes, such as the woodwinds, brass instruments and the choir, each of the four voices (soprano, alto, tenor, bass) is represented by its own timbre.

The conventional string quartet fills its four parts with three tones: two violins, viola, cello.

By Viola Profonda the classical string quartet is completed with the fourth tone.

Just as the cello is with its location an octave below the viola, the position of the viola Profonda is the system according to an octave below the violin.

  • String Tuning: G - d - a - e 'or F - c - g - d'
  • Notation: In the G- key it sounds an octave lower than written and transposed into the C- key sounds they lower than written a fourth.
  • Play: As with the violin - lying on the shoulder

History

The viola Profonda was designed by the Bolivian composer, conductor and instrument developer Gerardo Yañez, developed, named and patented in its complete form. In November 2007, the prototype was built and took place on 2 November 2008 in St. Thomas Church - the world premiere of Leipzig, instead. It was presented at the Berlin Philharmonic on 14 January 2010.
