Virbhadra Singh

Virbhadra Singh (Hindi: वीरभद्र सिंह Virbhadra simh [ ʋi ː rb ʱ ʌdrʌ sɪŋh ]; born June 23, 1934 in Sarahan, Shimla district ) is an Indian politician (Congress Party). Since 25 December 2012, he is the Chief Minister ( head of government) of the state of Himachal Pradesh. Previously, he held the office already 1983-90, 1993-98 and 2003-07. He also worked from 1980 to 1983 and again from 2009 to 2012 Minister of State in the Indian central government.

Virbhadra Singh was born on 23 June 1934 in Sarahan in Shimla district today the state of Himachal Pradesh. He comes from the Rajput ruling family of the princely state Bashahr. He was educated at Bishop Cotton School, Shimla and St. Stephens College in New Delhi. He earned it the qualification of a horticulturist ( horticulturist ). After the death of his father in 1947 Virbhadra Singh inherited him at the age of 13 as Raja of Bashahr. He retained this position until the dissolution of the princely states in 1956.

In 1962, Virbhadra Singh was first elected ( the Indian lower house) for the Congress party in the Lok Sabha, a re-elected in 1967. In 1971 he was appointed Deputy Minister ( Deputy Minister ) for Tourism and Civil Aviation. After re- re-election to the Lok Sabha in 1980, he was Minister of State for Industry 1982-83. Between 1962 and 2007 he was also elected seven times as a deputy in the Legislative Assembly of the State of Himachal Pradesh. In the years 1983-90, 1993-98 and 2003-07, he held the post of Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh and was between 1998 and 2003 opposition leader in the Parliament of Himachal Pradesh. After the re-election to the 15th Lok Sabha in the 2009 elections, he resigned as minister for steel in the coalition government of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. After the electoral victory of the Congress Party in the federal state elections in Himachal Pradesh, he returned in 2012 to the office of the Chief Minister of the state back.

Virbhadra Singh has a son and four daughters.
