Virgilio Fossati

Virgilio Fossati ( born September 12, 1889 in Milan, Italy, † 1918) was an Italian football player and coach.

Virgilio Fossati was born in 1889 in Milan. As a player he played from 1909 to 1915 97 appearances for Inter Milan, where he scored four goals. In 1910 he won with Inter Milan, the Italian Cup, the Scudetto. So it was that was Fossati Inter's first captain; at the same time he was the first player, who also played in the Italian national football team. Here he came to twelve times, scoring one goal. Between 1909 and 1915, Fossati was also also the first coach in the history of the club.

His career, however, was abruptly terminated. Virgilio Fossati came in 1918 during the First World War, in a battle between Italian and Austrian troops killed. His brother Giuseppe ( * 1894) has also played for Inter Milan.
