Virginia Beach Mariners
The Virginia Beach Mariners Soccer Club is a former American professional football club based in Virginia Beach, Virginia. The club was founded in 1994 and played in the USL First Division, the then second highest league in North American football.
History
The club was founded in 1994 as the Hampton Roads Hurricanes. After the first season, the Mariners from the Hurricanes. In 1997 the association was of no games and joined the following season the A-League, the forerunner of the United Soccer Leagues. Two years later the club moved into the Virginia Beach Sportsplex.
2003, the club was renamed again and is called since Virginia Beach Mariners. To date, the club was able to achieve any significant success.
Since 2006, the reserve team of the club plays as " Virginia Beach Submariners " in the USL Premier Development League.
On 30 March 2007, the club announced his resignation from the current operation. This was due to the withdrawal of the owner of the club.
The reserve team of the club was taken over by the W- League Club Hampton Roads Piranhas. Under this name, the club continued to play in the Premier Development League.
