VirtualDub

VirtualDub is a free software to edit and create video files under Windows. Precompiled output from the Program are 98 available for all versions of Windows from Windows.

Overview

Author Avery Lee wanted to create with " VirtualDub " a fast, linear video editing using a graphical user interface. Support is primarily the AVI container format. These hand VirtualDub long time solely upon Video for Windows interface to which in turn usually requires a previously installed, compatible codec. Besides AVI, the MPEG -1 format still supported and graphic formats Jpeg, BMP, TGA, PNG and JFIF. In version 1.7.6, a plug- in interface for further retrofit file formats has been implemented. In addition, VirtualDub can capture the data stream of a suitable video source (such as a camera or TV card ). Regardless of the source material may VirtualDub video files only save in AVI format.

To edit VirtualDub provides with some video filters, others can be added through the plug- in interface, including Deshaker. The automatic processing of several videos ( batch processing) can be accomplished with the help of scripts. Furthermore, VirtualDub can also act as a frame server.

Modifications

For a long time the number of supported video and audio formats from VirtualDub was comparatively low. For example, the program could not read in the widely used MPEG -2 video format (standard for digital television and commercial video DVDs ). Remedy here only created using a frame server like AviSynth, which decoded the material first and then handed it to VirtualDub. Therefore, published third party modifications of VirtualDub, which were supplemented by the native support for other formats. The most popular representatives were Nandub ( one of the first video programs with two- pass encoding based on the DivX codec in version 3.11), VirtualDubMod ( a fusion of many modifications, such as for the support of Matroska or Ogg Media ) and VirtualDub - MPEG2 ( only supplemented with MPEG2 support). The development of modifications, however, came again to a halt because VirtualDub can be extended with plug-ins now.
