Visa policy of Australia

The Electronic Travel Authority ( ETA shortly ) is an electronic visa for tourists and businessmen for entry into Australia. The ETA visa is divided into the ETA method and the eVisitor method.

That means no more paper documents are required and the visa after a successful application is stored directly by the Immigration Department electronically and is already present in the entry.

Background

A visa may only be requested if the traveler a valid passport from one of the following countries has: Germany, Austria, Switzerland, United States, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Andorra, Belgium, Brunei, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Greece, Hong Kong, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Malta, Monaco, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, San Marino, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Vatican City.

However, it should be distinguished between the ETA and the eVisitor. The eVisitor is a subcategory of the ETA and is valid for all European countries. The normal ETA is valid for all countries rest of the above list. The exact division between ETA and eVisitor is as follows:

The application of an electronic visa can be done via the Internet, through a consulate or directly when booking a flight through an authorized travel agent. There are also various agencies for which the visa surcharge may be applied for online. The advantage of such services is the higher approval rate of the application, as the data are pre- checked and errors can be corrected in time. Unlike the American method applying to the Australian site is also available in English only.

When applying for the ETA, a fee of $ 20 is charged, the eVisitor other hand is free.

The corresponding method is called for the U.S. Electronic System for Travel Authorization ( ESTA).
