The Visby Airport (formerly flygplats Visby, Visby Airport officially; IATA: VBY, ICAO: ESSV ) is the only international airport on the Swedish Baltic Sea island of Gotland. It is located about five kilometers north-east of Visby between Snäckgärdsbaden and Stora Hästnäs.
It was opened on 27 January 1942. In October 1942, the regular air traffic was recorded with three -engined Junkers aircraft on a grass runway. The former terminal, there is a flight museum. Since 1957 there is a tarmac lane, 1958 a new terminal was built, the last terminal construction was carried out in 1987.
The frequenting the airport varies greatly with the season. In the summer the traffic increases significantly.
