Viscount Hood

Viscount Hood of Whitley, is a British hereditary title of nobility in the Peerage of Great Britain, the head of the younger bears (since 1990 only surviving ) line of seafaring family Hood.

Award

The title was awarded in 1796 to the famous fleet commander Admiral Samuel Hood. This had been appointed a baronet in 1782 and a baron in 1778. 1795 his wife Susannah also to Baroness Hood of Catherington had been appointed ( in its own right ).

Subordinate title

Subordinate title Viscountswürde are today: Baron Hood, of Catherington ( created 1782 ), Baron Hood of Catherington ( created 1795), Bart Hood of Catherington ( created 1778). The former title also belongs to the Peerage of Great Britain, the second in the Peerage of Ireland and the baronetcy on the Baronetage of Great Britain.

Admiral Alexander Hood, 1st Viscount Bridport ( 1726-1814 ) was the younger brother of the first Viscount Hood. The second son of the 2nd Viscount Hood, Samuel Hood, inherited from him, his great-uncle, the title of Baron Bridport ( Peerage of Ireland) and founded the line of the later Viscount Bridport.

The Fuller - Acland - Hood Baronet of St Audries or the Barons St. Audries descended from an uncle of the first Viscount Hood. They were the 1990 older extinct line of Hoods.
