Viscount Palmerston

Viscount Palmerston was a British hereditary title of nobility in the Peerage of Ireland, which was run by the family Temple.

Award

The title was created in 1723 for Henry Temple. He had previously represented various UK electoral districts in the House of Commons.

The most important holder of the title was Henry John Temple, 3rd Viscount Palmerston, which from 1855 to 1858 and from 1859 to 1865 was British Prime Minister. When he died in 1865 without descendant, the title became extinct.

Subordinate title

The first Vicount was also the title of a Baron Temple of Mount Temple in the County of Sligo, awarded. This title, which also belonged to the peerage of Ireland, was run as a subordinate item.
