Vitale da Bologna

Vitale da Bologna, Vitalis de Equis, Vitale delle Madonna, Mimo de'Cavalli, (* around 1308 in Bologna, before 1361 ) was an Italian painter of the early Renaissance. He is regarded as the most important representatives of the Bolognese school of the 14th century.

Vitale was active mainly in Bologna, but also worked in Pomposa (frescoes in Santa Maria, Christ with Angels and Saints, 1351 ) and Udine (frescoes Death of St. Bernard and St. Nicholas Cathedral in 1348 /49). At first he was influenced by Giotto.

His main works of Saint George is one of the battle with the dragon in Bologna and the Madonna dei Denti (Bologna), the Adoration of the Magi (Edinburgh, National Gallery of Scotland ) and the Marien- Polyptych ( 1353 ) in the church of San Salvatore in Bologna.

He was also the sources to the wood sculptor.
