Vitaly Margulis

Vitaly Margulis, actually Vitaly Margulis Iossifowytsch (* April 16, 1928 in Kharkiv, † 29 May, 2011 Los Angeles ) was a Ukrainian pianist and music teacher.

Margulis received his first piano lessons from his father. He completed his studies at the Leningrad Conservatory as a student of Samarij Sawchinski. From 1958 on, he was head of his own master class at the Leningrad Conservatory. He was a regular soloist with the Leningrad Philharmonic and played over 1,000 concerts throughout the Soviet Union.

In 1974 he emigrated to the Federal Republic of Germany, where he was appointed in 1975 as a professor at the Hochschule für Musik Freiburg. This year, he also took his concerts again.

Margulis has taken the essence of his piano pedagogy in aphorisms, which he published in two books. Margulis also acts as a music teacher. His master course in Freiburg forms since 1987 the pianist in the tradition of the Russian school of Rubinstein brothers. In 1994 he received a professorship at the University of California at Los Angeles ( UCLA).
