Vittorio Cottafavi

Vittorio Cottafavi ( born January 30, 1914 in Modena, † 14 December 1998 ) was an Italian film director and screenwriter.

Life

Cottafavi graduated in law, literature and philosophy, and then attended the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia, where he graduated in 1938. From the following year, he worked on screenplays and worked as an assistant director. In 1943, he presented with I nostri sogni before his directorial debut; due to the war lasted until 1946, that he - in collaboration with Michael Waszynski - further work could follow. In 1949 he succeeded with two biographical, the realism related films ( La fiamme che non si spegne On Salvo D'Acquisto and Una donna ha ucciso ) successes.

From 1958 Cottafavi dedicated to the commercial antique film in which he remarkable, technically excellent specimens created. In 1964 he made his last film for the screen and then devoted himself entirely to the television for which he had worked occasionally since 1957. To this end, he created a number of outstanding and well-equipped films ( Umiliati e affesi, Vita di Dante, Cristoforo Colombo) and one of the first forays into the realm of Science Fiction ( 1972 Serie A come Andromeda ). A later success was staged by amateur actors Maria Zef on the novel by Paolo Drigo. His last film Il diavolo sulle colline was shown at the Cannes Film Festival in 1985.
