Vittorio De Seta

Vittorio De Seta (* October 15, 1923 in Palermo, † 28 November, 2011 Sellia Marina ) was an Italian screenwriter and film director.

Life

De Seta was born into a wealthy family. An architectural studies in Rome, he broke off to devote himself entirely to the filming. Between 1954 and 1959 he made ten short documentaries, describe the first of which seven everyday life in Sicily. Three other documentaries originated in Sardinia and Calabria.

The first long documentary Banditi a Orgosolo was created in 1960 in Sardinia. He solved together with the films of Pier Paolo Pasolini from a second wave of Italian neorealism and was awarded in 1961 at the International Film Festival in Venice.

In the following years, De Seta devoted to other genres, until in 1980 he again returned to the documentary. His last film Lettere dal Sahara was also awarded at the International Film Festival in Venice.

De Seta last lived in Rome and Sicily.
