Viziru

Viziru is a municipality in the district of Brăila in Wallachia, Romania.

Geographical location

The municipality is located in the Visiru Wallachian Plain ( Câmpia Română) in the historical region of Wallachia, Romania Great. In the Brailei level, on the European road 584 ( Brăila - Slobozia, Kr Ialomiţa ) the place Viziru located 17 kilometers northeast of the small town Însurăţei; the county capital of Brăila is about 37 kilometers northeast of Viziru away. 15 km east of Viziru runs the Danube.

Of the total area of the municipality ( 10,564 ha), edited 9,894 hectares for agricultural purposes.

History

Viziru supposed to be one of the oldest towns of the district Brăila. He was allegedly in 1462, mentioned in documents for the enslavement of 600 families by Turks. The state finished my village Lanurile was called until 1965 Golăşei.

Population

2002 there were in the church ( * according to different specifications ) 6,396 inhabitants. 5423 (* 4913 ) which were Romanians, 972 (* 1483 ) were Roma and one of them called himself a Magyar.

On 31 August 2011, at a preliminary census in the community Viziru, in 2200 households 5,754 people were counted. The main occupation of the population is agriculture.

Attractions

  • Two Orthodox churches in Viziru, the built in Cartierul de Sus about 1870 and renewed the second, 2010.
