Vladimir Becić
Vladimir BECIC ( born June 1, 1886 in Slavonski Brod, Croatia today, † May 24, 1954 in Zagreb) was a Yugoslav painter.
Vladimir BECIC first studied law and attended private painting classes in parallel Menci Klement Crnčić and Bela Cikos. He exhibited at the anniversary exhibition of the Croatian Kunstgenossenschaft and at the first Yugoslav Art Exhibition in Belgrade. In the years 1905 and 1906 he went to Munich, where he takes private painting classes and was adopted in 1906 at the Academy of Hugo von Habermann. This class 1905-1910 included all four members of the so-called Munich circle ( Josip Račić, Miroslav Kraljević, Oskar Herman). In 1909 he finished his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich and BECIC then went to Paris, where he attended the Académie de la Grande Chaumiere. There he met Manet and Cézanne know works. He even made copies of Manet's works, which he exhibited at the Salon d' Automne. BECIC worked as a draftsman for the Paris newspaper L' Illustration. After Zagreb, he returned back in 1910. In the salon Ulrich he had his first solo exhibition. It went on to BECIC also in Zagreb Spring Salon. In the following years, from 1921 to 1927, he exhibited with the group of independent artists ( Jerolim Miše, Vladimir Varlaj, Joza Kljaković, Frano Krsinic, Ivan Mestrovic, Ljubo Babić ). Together with Babić and Miše he was one of the members of the triad, which was founded in 1930 and who used the poetry of the so-called pure painting of realism. Even his earliest works tend in the beginning to clarity and modeling. His oil and watercolor sketches exude freshness. In his last years he took inspiration from Istria and the Neretva valley. In 1934 he was appointed professor at the Zagreb Academy of Fine Arts. Since 1934 BECIC was a member of the Yugoslav Academy of Sciences and Arts.
