Vladimir V. Kavrayskiy

Vladimir Vladimirovich Kawraiski (Russian: Владимир Владимирович Каврайский, .. * 10 Apriljul / April 22 1884greg in Bolschoye Scherebjatnikowo, government Simbirsk (now Ulyanovsk Oblast ), † February 26, 1954 in Leningrad) was a Soviet astronomer and cartographer.

Kawraiski studied at the University of Kharkov, in 1935 professor at the Seekriegsakademie and 1944 Engineer Rear Admiral. Is known is his low distortion Kawraiski VII projection to represent geographic maps.

He was awarded the Stalin Prize in 1952. A mountain on the island of the Kuril Islands and the Urup Kawraiski Hill in Antarctica was named after him as well as a long exaggerated this icebreaker.
