Vladimír Železný

Vladimir Zelezny, pseudonym of the times before November 1989 Vladimír Silný, Jakub Stone ( born March 3, 1945 in Samara, Soviet Union) is a Czech media entrepreneur and politician who often moves on the edge or outside the law and therefore, more recently, "Czech Berlusconi " is called.

Life

His father was a member of the Czechoslovak units which fought in the Ukraine against the German occupiers. In 1963 he passed the high school and took the place of a production assistant at Czech Television. A year later, Zelezny began with the study of Social Sciences at Charles University in Prague.

After finishing the studies in 1968 he again worked in television, after the occupation of Czechoslovakia by the armies of the Warsaw Pact, he participated actively in the broadcasting part by the illegal television. Shortly thereafter, he went to England and worked in the Associated Press. In 1969 he returned to Prague and wrote his doctoral thesis.

In the seventies and eighties he was not allowed to appear in public, became an editor of a technical magazine and wrote under the pseudonym of Vladimír Silný screenplays for popular science programs. Under the name Jakub stone, he has published articles in journals published by the author appearing.

1990 began his active political work as press secretary of the Civic Forum ( Občanské fórum ). In 1991 he was government spokesman and advisor to the then Prime Minister Petr Pithart.

From 1993 to 2003 he was Managing Director of TV company CET 21, which also includes the television station TV Nova belonged. Here he brought his U.S. partner Ronald Lauder for his share, which has led to international arbitrage, which was decided in favor Lauder's CME. The damage - 353 million U.S. dollars (about 10.5 billion CZK) - carry up today Czech taxpayers because it is missing in the Czech Republic to laws that would make it possible to ask for a damage compensation from the polluter.

For he founded movement / party INDEPENDENT ( Nezávislí ), he was elected Senator in 2002 ( in the Senate he was then a member of the Committee for European Integration and chairman of he founded the communist group " Nezařazení " ), 2004 as an MEP in the European Parliament ( there elected Deputy Chairman of the European Parliament for viticulture) 2005. With his last party Independent Democrats ( Nezávislí demokraté ) he sought re-election to the Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Parliament ( elections in June 2006).

His immunity as a senator and later as an MEP was abolished by the Senate (2003) and by the European Parliament (2005/ 06).
