Vogar

Vogar (Eng. " ( Small ) bays " ) is a city on the north coast of the Reykjanes Peninsula, about 30 kilometers from the capital Reykjavik. Vogar is on the Bay Vogavík in Stakksfjörður, a part of the wide Faxaflói. The area is characterized by the vast lava of Þráinsskjaldarhraun and Arnarseturshraun. The nearest large city is located about 10 kilometers west of Vogar Njarðvík.

The development of the city in the immediate Capital Region has so far been largely determined by the progress and changes in relation to fishing. With the beginning of the use of motor boats and the consequent detachment of the traditional open rowing boats also ended the economic boom of the small fishing village, as the port offered too little room for these ships. In recent years, the population of the place listed further growth by attracting residents from the Greater Reykjavík.

In the 19th century the farmer Jón Daníelsson lived in Vogar, who allegedly was carrying a 450 kg heavy stone from his field. This stone is a monument in front of the local school.
