Vogelpark Avifauna

The Avifauna Bird Park is a large bird park in Alphen aan den Rijn in the Netherlands.

The name is derived from the avifauna of the park inventory, which consists mainly of birds. The bird park Avifauna was founded in 1949 and one of the most popular bird parks in the world.

The park has a large pond, a restaurant and a children 's playground with a large slide. Operator of the park is the Van der Valk - Group.

History of the park

In August 1949 persuaded the mayor of Alphen aan den Rijn, Mr Van den Brink, the owner of the farm Ten Rhijn, the garden located behind his house but once open for interested villagers. The people were so impressed by this private collection of birds that Van den Brink decided to open a bird park there. On May 17, 1950, there was time and the park opened to the public its doors.

On the advertising posters at the opening of a toucan was mapped. Since this was very well received by the public, it was decided to make it the emblem of the bird park. Even the family Van der Valk, which took over the park a few years later, kept the toucan in the heraldic animal and took him even for their hotels and restaurants. Today's restaurant is located in the former home of the Van den Brink family.

Livestock

Some of today's resident bird park birds are descendants of Erstbesatzes or are descended from them. The pelicans are also included.

Since 2002, a part of the Brazilian avifauna is replicated and kept some of the resident bird species in the Pantanal successful.

Recently, a new complex was opened, among other information, the largest group of Cuban Flamingo can be seen in Europe.

The park is considered with respect to the keeping and breeding of hornbills on the borders of the Netherlands addition, as substantial authority.

Planning for the future

The park itself as one of the outstanding tourist attractions in the Netherlands, with the aim to inspire visitors in an unusual and exotic environment. The operators want to also place special emphasis on the issue, keeping and breeding of rare birds, which they present in the natural habitats simulated environments.

Projects

The bird park Avifauna is a member of NVD and the EAZA and supports various conservation projects in the Philippines.
