Vohilaid

Vohilaid ( German Wohhi ) is an Estonian Baltic island.

Location and History

Vohilaid lying northeast of the Estonian island of Hiiumaa. It belongs administratively to the municipality Pühalepa on Hiiumaa. The sea between Hiiumaa and Vohilaid is deeply consistently only 40 cm, so that a car transport between the islands is possible.

The island is 416 acres in size. The highest point is ten meters above the sea level.

Vohilaid was first mentioned in records in 1586 under the name Kill Inge Holm. Until the Second World War, the island was inhabited, especially on their agriculture was possible. Today it is only used as pasture.

In the north of Vohilaid there are other small islands: Hellamaa rahud, Uuemererahu, Ramsi Rahu and Kadakalaid on growing even a small forest. 1.5km northeast is the island Hõralaid.
