Vollore-Ville

Vollore -Ville is a commune in the Auvergne region in the Puy -de- Dôme in the Arrondissement of Thiers in Canton Courpière.

General

The municipality covers 30.41 square kilometers at 316-1062 m above sea level. It lies on the D 7 and D 313A. It has 728 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011).

History

In Roman times, the settlement was called " Lavolatrum ". In the history of the Auvergne place in the 6th century emerges as Thierry, son of Clovis ( Clovis I. = ) Vollore besieged in 532. In the 12th century the local nobility built a fortress which still exists today of the Romanesque keep. In the 17th century the castle took on its current appearance. For two centuries it has been the residence of people living in the Auvergne descendants of General La Fayette.
