Vouillé, Vienne

Vouillé is a commune with 3,612 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) near Poitiers in the Vienne department in the Poitou -Charentes. It lies on the banks of the River Auxance and belongs to the Communauté de communes community association du Pays Vouglaisien.

History

In the year 507 to the Battle of Vouillé ( Proelium Vogladense ) here have taken place in the Frankish King Clovis defeated the Visigoths.

However, the view is held that the place of the battle is not Vouillé but Voulon was. While Vouillé located about 15 km northwest of Poitiers, to Voulon located approximately 16 km south of Poitiers.

The distance of the battlefield of Poitiers is given in Gregory of Tours, with 10 miles ( " in campo Vogladense decimo from urbe Pictava miliario ").
