Vračar

Vračar (Serbian: Врачар ) is a municipality of Belgrade.

The Vračar houses next to the monumental Cathedral of St. Sava, the National Library of Serbia, and is taken in its entirety from a park (plateau of St. Sava - Svetosavski Plato).

The Feast of the district Vračar is St. Sava on January 27.

Name

There are several legends about the origin of the name Vračar. The oldest goes back to the year 1521, when this area was named after a hero, an unbeliever, the Vračar said and had built his hut at this point. Another, according to the name of vrapčijia polja was ( vrabac = Sparrow, polje = field - field sparrows ) derived, for many of these birds had settled on the territory of today Vračar. With the lifting of the Rayon 1952 two congregations were formed: East and Vračar Neimar. In 1960, the territory of the present municipality was established, which includes parts of the former municipalities East Vračar, Neimar and Terazije.
