Vrancea County

Vrancea [ vrant ͜ ʃea ] is a Romanian county (Romanian Judet ) in the region of Moldova to the district capital Focsani. Its common abbreviation and the license plate number is VN.

The Vrancea County is bordered on the north by the district of Bacau, in the northeast on the Vaslui county, on the east by the county of Galaţi, Brăila in the southeast to the county, in the south and in the southwest on the circle Buzău and to the west by the Covasna county.

Demography

In 2002, the county 387 632 inhabitants and a population density of 80 inhabitants per km ². Of these, 380 364 Romanians, Roma 6813, 135 Hungary, 41 German, 36 Turks.

On 1 January 2009 the district had 391 641 inhabitants, thus a population density of 81 inhabitants per km ².

Geography

The county has a total area of ​​4863 km ², equivalent to 2.03 % of the area of Romania. Vrancea is one of the most active seismic regions in Europe. With the earthquake in Vrancea 1977 occurred one of the strongest earthquakes of the Eastern European history.
