Vreni Eberle

Verena Eberle ( born November 13, 1950 in Munich) is a German former swimmer.

She celebrated numerous successes in swimming at national level. Attained their greatest success Verena Eberle at the 1972 Summer Olympics in her native Munich.

Career

Swimming career

It was not until 1961, with 11 years, Eberle began with the swimming training. In 1964 she won the 200m breast the Bavarian championship. Her first international competition was held, among others, in Oslo, Bratislava, Stockholm, Paris and Budapest.

At the national level, the breakthrough came in 1968 when she through a second place at the German Championships secured the participation in the Olympic Summer Games in Mexico City. The unusual amount of air at the venue could be one reason for the early failure in the heats in the 100 meters and 200 meters breaststroke.

In the Olympic year 1972, she became German champion in the 200 meters breaststroke, which she qualified for the Summer Games in Munich. There she won the 4 × 100 meter medley relay bronze medal. Behind the GDR and the U.S. Eberle made ​​the only set relay swimmer in advance that the medley relay scarce, only one tenth of a second, before the Australians secured the eighth rank, and so reached the Olympic final. In the individual competition 100m breaststroke she won the 6th place in the final. About 200 meters breaststroke she did not get beyond the flow.

After the Olympic Games in Munich, Verena Eberle finished with not yet 22 years of age, their active swimming career.

Private career

In 1970, she finished high school with university entrance. Professionally, she trained as a physiotherapist and physical therapist. Since 1977, Verena Eberle is married to Wolfsried Hawe. Together they have 4 children, who also devoted themselves to swimming or still active exercise. Since 1984, Verena Hawe has worked as a volunteer coach at the swimming club SG Oberland.
