Vrindavan (Hindi: वृन्दावन, Vrndavana ) is a 60,000 inhabitants town in Mathura district in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.

Location

Vrindavan is about 170 meters above sea level. inst the course of the river Yamuna about 8 kilometers north of the city of Mathura. Agra is located about 75 km to the southeast and away India's capital Delhi is located about 145 kilometers north.

Mythology

According to tradition, the city of Vrindavan is the place of erstwhile forest of Vrndavana, in whose vicinity the Hindu deity Krishna in Gokula, a village of cowherds, is supposed to be grown up.
