Vrizy

Vrizy is a commune with 338 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the Ardennes department in the Champagne- Ardenne region.

Geography

The community is located about 50 kilometers (direct distance ) north-east of Reims. Neighboring communities of Vrizy are:

  • Voncq in the north,
  • Terron -sur -Aisne in the Northeast,
  • Vandy in the East
  • Vouziers in the south and
  • Grivy - Loisy in the West.

The municipality is located on the left bank of the Aisne and the parallel branch channel of Vouziers branching from the Canal des Ardennes in Rilly -sur- Aisne. In a loop of the river Aisne is an enclave surrounded entirely by municipal area of ​​the neighboring municipality of Vandy.

History

Mentioned for the first time in 1145, Vrizy was an important center of basketry. By 1920, more than 500 basket weavers worked in Vrizy.

During the First World War, the Feldfliegerabteilung was 10, in which the German ace Max Immelmann was stationed in Vrizy.
