Vulcaniella karadaghella

Vulcaniella karadaghella is a butterfly (moth ) from the family of the splendor butterfly ( Cosmopterigidae ).

Features

The moths reach a wingspan of 10-12 millimeters. The head shines golden brown dark. The antennae are curled brown and three-quarters white. In the last quarter, a consisting of three segments dark brown section is on a white or almost white portion follows. Thorax and tegulae shining golden brown, the tegulae are outside margins silvery.

In the males the right brachium is broad, slightly curved and trimmed inside. The left brachium is wide and tapers distally gradually. The Valven are rotated parallel walls and distally. The right Valvella is shorter than the distal portion of aedeagus and about as long as the Valven. It is widened and flattened dorso- ventrally. The left Valvella is long and tapers gradually. The aedeagus is bulbous, the distal part is strong and rounded.

The genital armature of females resembles that of Vulcaniella grandiferella that Antevaginalplatte but is irregular and the ostium is wider. The rear edge of the 7th sternite is strongly concave and the sclerotization is narrowly triangular. The signals are rounded apically.

Similar Species

Vulcaniella karadaghella has drawn similar forewing as Vulcaniella grandiferella, the little white spots are located very close to the base, the white spots on the Costa loaders are more pronounced. At the apex located in the Frans scales often pale golden metallic lines. The hindwing shining brownish gray.

Dissemination

Vulcaniella karadaghella is spread on the Crimean peninsula and in Asia Minor.

Biology

The caterpillars develop on felted sage (Salvia grandiflora ) and nate in the blade tip. The apical part of the leaf is brown and curls up in a characteristic rosette, so that the infected plant is easy to recognize. The affected plants are usually in the shade of shrubs. The caterpillars pupate in the mine. The moths fly from late June to early July.
