Vulcaniella rosmarinella

Vulcaniella rosemary ella is a butterfly (moth ) from the family of the splendor butterfly ( Cosmopterigidae ).

Features

The moths reach a wingspan of 7-8 millimeters. Head, thorax and tegulae shining dark brown and golden glitter. The front wings are drawn as Vulcaniella grabowiella.

In the males the right brachium is slightly curved and widened distally. The apex is rounded. The left brachium is also slightly curved and rounded. The Valven are parallel walls. The right Valvella is shorter than the distal portion of aedeagus. It is slightly curved, strong and very wide at the base. It tapers gradually towards the apex. The left Valvella is long and tapers gradually. The distal part of aedeagus tapering abruptly, the apex is curved.

In females, the eighth segment narrowed rear. The Antevaginalplatte is V-shaped. At the rear end of the 7th sternite is a sac-like sclerotization.

Similar Species

Vulcaniella rosemary ella is drawn as Vulcaniella grabowiella, but differs by the shiny dark brown head, which, like the thorax colored. The tegulae are gerandet not know.

Dissemination

Vulcaniella rosemary ella is located in Southern Europe (Spain, France, Corsica). In the east, the range extends to Greece and Crete. The species occurs also in North Africa.

Biology

The caterpillars develop on rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis). The species probably forms two generations per year. The caterpillars nate in spring and summer in the leaves, which are often spun together. The Mines begin as irregular burrow.
